The supporting structure of the Cab armchair is an enameled steel frame. To upholster, sixteen pieces of saddle leather are individually die cut undergoing an additional fourteen discreet procedures by hand. The pieces are sewn together after their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel frame and held in place by a zipper fastening, as in a bespoke tailored garment.The superior craftsmanship and iconic design ensure it will remain an elegant staple for years to come.
Mario Bellini is an architect and designer internationally renowned. He received the Golden Compass Award eight times and 25 of his works are in the permanent design collection of the New York MoMA, which dedicated to him a personal retrospective in 1987. He was editor of Domus magazine (1985-1991) and has designed countless art, design and architecture exhibitions over the years, both in Italy and abroad.
